  • Gymnast Gabby Douglas was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1995, and grew up in nearby Virginia Beach. She is well known for being on 2012 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team. She is the first African American to win the Olympic Gold all-around title.
  • The capital of Virginia is Richmond. Other large cities include Virginia Beach, Arlington, Chesapeake, Newport News, Norfolk, and Alexandria.
