The Mayflower Compact is Written
November 11, 1621
The Mayflower Compact was written by the settlers and signed on November 11, 1620. It outlined fair rules for the colony that the settlers agreed to follow.
The following winter brought incredible hardship. The Pilgrims were not prepared for the cold and had inadequate shelter and were overcome with disease. Over half lost their lives during this time.
Meeting the Wampanoags
In the spring of 1621, the Pilgrims met a Wampanoag named Samoset. He introduced them to Squanto, who spoke English and taught the Pilgrims how to survive in their new colony.
The First Thanksgiving
After their first successful harvest, the Pilgrims invited the Wampanoag people to a grand feast to celebrate. This later became known as the "First Thanksgiving".
