Les Paquette exploitent une ferme laitière dans le Vermont mais risquent de perdre la ferme après l'accident de leur père. La famille Cruz est originaire du Mexique et a immigré aux États-Unis à la recherche d'une vie meilleure. L'histoire est racontée à travers les yeux de deux enfants de 11 ans, Tyler Paquette et Mari Cruz. Ce livre important aide les élèves à mieux comprendre l'immigration et les travailleurs migrants, et comment l'amitié peut briser les stéréotypes et jeter des ponts vers un monde meilleur.
