Activity Overview

Teachers may familiarize themselves with RBG's life and legacy. It is interesting to note that some of Ginsburg’s most transformative cases on gender equality were prior to her becoming a Supreme Court Justice.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court. She began her career as a lawyer at a time when many opportunities were closed to women and she fought her entire career to end gender discriminations. She was also a staunch defender of voting rights and equal rights for all.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg served on the Supreme Court for 27 years until her death. Over her time on the court, the Notorious RBG as she was affectionately called in pop culture, became a beloved icon for her passionate defense of women’s rights and a champion for equal rights for all. Ginsburg died of metastatic pancreatic cancer on September 18, 2020. Prior to her death, she dictated to her granddaughter: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

Teachers can choose the amount of information to share with their class that is developmentally appropriate and suitable for their needs. After learning about Ginsburg’s many accomplishments, students will demonstrate their understanding by creating a 4-6 cell biographical storyboard. They will describe the main events of Ginsburg’s life with pictures and words.

Alternatively, create a biography storyboard about a different Supreme Court Justice.
