Activity Overview
Each state in our country has its own unique fun facts that kids will love to discover. For this activity, students will create a 3 cell storyboard that depicts some interesting facts they have learned about Nevada. Teachers can encourage students to research their own fun facts, or provide a list of ones for students to look at specifically. Here are some examples of fun facts:
- Nevada was the first state to say yes to the Fifth Amendment, allowing all to vote, regardless of race.
- Hard hats were invented in 1933 for the Hoover Dam workers, and are widely used today.
- Some believe that UFOs have been sighted at an air force base called Area 51, located in Lincoln County, Nevada. Tourists visit Area 51 hoping to spot an alien or UFO!
- Nevada is one of the driest states in the USA, averaging less than 10 inches of rain a year.
- The Stratosphere, located in Las Vegas, is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the country.
- People in Nevada consume over 60,000 pounds of shellfish every day, which is more than the rest of the country combined!
