RISING ACTION
The villagers of the Protectorate are scared into obedience by a terrible witch. The "Elders" force villagers to sacrifice the youngest baby once a year to appease her. On this Day of Sacrifice, Adara is unwilling to give up her baby. The Elders lock her in a tower and leave the baby at the edge of the woods for the witch. Antain, the Elder in Training is traumatized at seeing such cruelty.
CLIMAX
Xan, a kind witch, retrieves an abandoned baby every year. She does not know why the baby is left there but she always brings the "Star Child" to the Free Cities to be adopted and cherished. This year, she accidentally gives the baby moonlight to drink and it becomes enmagicked! To protect the baby, Xan keeps her, names her Luna, and raises her with love along with her swamp monster Glerk and her tiny dragon Fyrian.
FALLING ACTION
Xan, Glerk, and Fyrian love Luna but her magic gets out of control. At age 5, Xan casts a spell on her to hide her magic until she is 13, believing it will protect Luna from hurting herself or others. Meanwhile, Antain is riddled with guilt and visits the mother, Adara in the tower. Adara's magic paper birds attack Antain, permanently disfiguring him.
RESOLUTION
Luna realizes that there are secrets kept from her. Xan, Fyrian, and Glerk can't remember something sorrowful to do with the Protectorate. Antain finds love with Ethyne and together their love and hope makes cracks in the cloud of the Protectorate. Luna's magic breaks free just as Antain embarks on a quest to kill the witch to save his and Ethyne's newborn baby. Sister Ignatia goes to the woods to kill Antain.
Ethyne realizes the real witch, Sister Ignatia, is set to kill Antain and rallies the town to overthrow their oppressors. Adara uses her magic to break free from her cell and find Luna. Meanwhile, Antain realizes his mistake that Xan was not a bad witch. Luna, Xan, Fyrian (who has grown to full size), and Glerk confront Sister Ignatia in the woods and overpower her!
As Luna gains her full power, Xan's life slowly comes to an end, but not before she can teach Luna about her powers. The villagers of the Protectorate regain their hope and, led by Ethyne and Antain, take back control of the city. Glerk takes Xan to the Bog of Creation to her final resting place. Luna is reunited with her mother.
