Storyboard Tekst

  • WHOThe Titanic had passengers from wealthy first class celebrities, to third class travelers who only paid 20 dollars for a ticket. John Jacob Aster IV was known as the wealthiest traveler on the ship. He was an American business man worth over 87 million dollars; he died on the boat. Molly Brown, an American socialite who hit riches with her husband in the mining business, is known for refusing to board a lifeboat right away and helping others get to safety. She eventually got on a lifeboat and survived. While the ship was sinking, eight musicians traveling in second class will always be remembered for their bravery: playing calming music while chaos ensued all around them, never moving as the ship sank with them on it.
  • WHATThe Titanic was a luxury cruise ship that began its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. It had over 2,000 passengers and about 900 crew members. Run by steam power, it was 882 feet long, over 100 feet tall, and had 10 levels. It was called the "Unsinkable Ship" due to its enormous size and strong design. The ship was very elegant and had a ballroom, a gym, a barbershop, a pool, and very fancy rooms for the first class. On the night of April 14th, the Titanic hit a massive iceberg and eventually sank 3 hours later during the early hours of April 15th. Many people lost their lives.
  • WHEREThe Titanic departed from Southampton, England and made its way across the Atlantic Ocean after stopping at a few ports to pick up more passengers. Its destination was to be New York City in America. The exact location of where the ship sank was not discovered until 1985 when it was found off the coast of Newfoundland.

  • WHENThe Titanic set upon its maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. The beginning of the trip was smooth sailing until the ship hit an iceberg late at night on April 14th. After around 3 hours of slowly sinking, the ship snapped in half and sank to the bottom of the ocean at 2:20 am on April 15th.
  • WHYThe sinking of the Titanic was a terrible tragedy. Despite all efforts to steer the ship away from the enormous iceberg, the side of ship hit it beneath the surface. Many people believe that the ship was traveling too fast and because of the dense fog, the iceberg could not be seen in time. The iceberg scraped the side of the ship, ripping six holes over an area of only 12-13 square feet. Although there was space on the ship for 32 lifeboats, there were only 20; they didn't want the lifeboats to take up too much space and they were not considered important on an "unsinkable ship". Not only were there not enough lifeboats for all passengers, the boats that were used were not filled to capacity. Only 706 people aboard the Titanic survived, which means over 1,200 people did not.
