The Holocaust is one of the blackest periods in world history. Anne Frank was a Jewish girl whose family tried to escape persecution and imprisonment by hiding in secret rooms. Anne kept a diary of her experience in the “Secret Annex” that shows the difficulties the Franks faced, as well as courage, wisdom, and hope in the face of adversity.

- (N.) Short for Geheime Staatspolizei, or "Secret State Police", the Gestapo could arrest and imprison without trial. The Gestapo are most well known for capturing Jews and those who aided in hiding Jews.

- (N.) Abbreviation of Schutzaffel or "Protection Squad." The S.S. were originally Hitler's own bodyguards and became the elite soldiers of the Nazi Party. They oversaw the police and were involved in running the concentration camps.
