  • Degrees are a unit of measurement, like inches or pounds.

  • Degrees measure rotation or turn of an angle in reference to a full circle.
  •
  • A sailor looks straight ahead through a spyglass at another ship. There is no turn, so he is looking at an angle of 0 degrees.
  • The factors of 360 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36, 40, 45, 60, 72, 90, 120, 180, and 360
  • Then he gets distracted by a bird and looks up. His head has turned upwards. Now he is looking at an angle of 45 degrees.

  • Some think that 360 was chosen for the number of degrees in a circle because it is close to the number of days in a year.
  • 360 also has many factors, so a circle can be divided into equal parts easily.
  • Each circle has been divided into equal parts. The angle measurement of each part is outside each circle.
