The setting of Chapter 1 is the kitchen. The story begins in the kitchen with the dad making pudding. The story ends in the kitchen when the dad punishes the boys for eating the pudding, by having them make a new one.
Chapter 2 is set in Julian's home. The characters are really excited about a catalog arriving. Julian makes Huey believe there are catalog cats that pop out of the catalog. "My father had the catalog under his arm. The three of us sat down on the couch."
Chapter 6 takes place outside, in Julian and Gloria's neighborhood. The characters do many things outside like cartwheeling and making kites. "We ran through the back yard with the kite, passed the garden and the fig tree, and went into the open field beyond our yard."
