Minerals such as gold, copper, iron, and silver are abundant in the Southwest region. These minerals are used to make products such as tools, jewelry, and coins.
Oil is the most important resource in the Southwest. Oil found in the ground is called crude oil, and isn't very useful. Refineries separate the crude oil into parts such as heating oil and gasoline.
There are several cattle and sheep ranches in the Southwest. It has become the leader in raising beef cattle in the United States.
