Washington was the 42nd state admitted into statehood on November 11, 1889.
Seattle's population booms as a result of the Klondike Gold Rush.
Mount Saint Helens
The Space Needle
On May 18, 1980, Mount Saint Helens erupted, triggering the largest landslide ever recorded at the time. It was the deadliest volcanic eruption in US history.
The Space Needle opens in Seattle on April 21st for the World Fair.
