Interesting Fact #3The Temple of Kukulcán is believed to have been built as a calendar. It has 365 steps in total, 91 steps on each of the four sides. Every year during the fall and spring equinox, the sun casts a shadow on the side of the temple that looks like a huge serpent! It was declared one of the new "Seven Wonders of the World" on 07/07/07.
Interesting Fact #1Chichén Itzà was a large Mayan city built around 400s CE. It thrived until about 1526 with the arrival of the Spanish colonizers. It is located in the Mexican state of the Yucatán. It became an important archeological site in the 1800s, and is visited by millions today.

Interesting Fact #4Other fascinating sites at Chichén Itzà are the Sacred Cenote which is an underground sacred lake built for the gods!; the Temple of Warriors, which has hundreds of columns and figures of warriors; and the Great Ballcourt, known as the largest ancient sports field in Central America! It is where the Mayans played their famous game Pok A Tok.
Interesting Fact #2There are many important structures remaining, including the Temple of Kukulcán! It was built to honor the Mayan god that appears as a feathered serpent. It is a pyramid that stands 30 meters or 98 feet high! The temple is believed to have been built between the 800-1100 CE.
