Storyboard Description

Having students choose a favorite quote or scene from the book allows them to express which parts of the story resonated with them on a personal level. In this way, students are making a text-to-self connection that demonstrates their understanding of the characters and their development or the themes of the novel. Students can share their storyboards afterwards and have a short discussion about what the quotes mean to them.

Storyboard Text

  • FAVORITE QUOTE in WALK TWO MOONS by SHARON CREECH
  • "You can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair" is one of the mysterious notes left on Phoebe Winterbottom's porch. Sal has grieved for her mother since she left many months ago. Her father believes that the road trip with her grandparents on the route Sal's mother traveled will help her come to a sense of closure and acceptance. Sal realizes that the note for Phoebe can apply to her own life and her need to continue living and finding happiness.
