Cell division is the process by which cells can make more cells. It only allows organisms to become more complex, it also allows organisms to replace cells and repair tissue. Engage students with premade activities at Storyboard That.
Key cell division vocabulary activity: Have students illustrate new terminology in science with comics and graphic organizers!

Deoxyribonucleic acid is more commonly known as DNA. It is a double helical molecule. It makes up chromosomes and stores genetic information.

DIPLOID CELL
A diploid cell has double the number of chromosomes of a haploid cell. In humans a diploid cell contains 46 chromosomes.diploid cells are found all over the body.
Slide: 3
HAPLOID CELL
A haploid cell has half the number of chromosomes of a diploid cell. In humans a haploid cell contains 23 chromosomes. An examples of haploid cells are sperm and egg cells.
Slide: 4
HOMOLOGOUS PAIR
Cells have two sets of chromosomes, one from the mother and one from the father. A homologous pair are two chromosomes that have the same genes on them, but not the same alleles.

CHROMOSOME
Chromosomes are thread-like structures composed of DNA. They are found in the nucleus of cells.
