Ally houdt niet van school. Als ze probeert te lezen of te schrijven, lijken de woorden gewoon rond te dansen en kan ze het gewoon niet. Haar lerares begrijpt haar niet en de gemene meiden lachen haar uit. Als haar lerares met zwangerschapsverlof gaat, verandert de wereld van Ally en dat komt door meneer Daniels. Hij is niet zoals de anderen. In feite is hij niet zoals iedereen die Ally ooit heeft ontmoet.
