  • SENATE
  • The House of Representatives currently has 435 members. Each state gets a certain number of reps based on its population. For example, Alaska has 1 representative, and California has 53!
  • There are 100 Senators in Congress. Each state has 2 Senators, regardless of its population.
  • Re-Elect Matthew Turner for Senate!
  • Length of Term
  • Representatives are elected to a new term every 2 years. However, there is no limit to how long a member can remain in the House, as long as they continue to get re-elected.
  • Senators are elected for a 6 year term. There is no limit to how many terms can be served, as long as the person continues to get re-elected.
  • Requirements
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was only 29 years old when she was elected as one of New York's representatives in 2018. She was re-elected in 2020.
  • JFK was only 36 years old when he became Senator for Massachusetts in 1953.
  • In order to run for a spot in the House of Representatives, a person must be at least 25 years old, have US citizenship for the last 7 years, and be a resident of the state they wish to represent.
  • In order to run for a spot in the Senate, a person must be at least 30 years old, have US citizenship for the last 9 years, and be a resident of the state they wish to represent.
